EKHOF-Festival 2002 Every summer there is a cultural highlight at the Ekhof-Theater inside Schloß Friedenstein in Gotha. Only here you can experience a theater which used to be part of the culture at court 300 years ago. Creaking floor-boards, an open change of scenery with a machinery, unique in Europe. Costumes and light like in the Baroque period. This years festival has the motto: " Musical excursions through the Baroque period". A musical journey through different countries and epoques shows different styles of music from "Frühbarock" to "Hochbarock". The first two
weekends are marked by Georg Philipp Telemann and Don Quichotte. You get to
see the ballet opera "Don Quichotte der Löwenritter", produced in 2001. Don
Quichotte and Sancho Pansa have to go through several
adventures. The stage of the theater turns into a Spanish landscape. Ballet
dancers and actors fascinate the audience by bringing the old times to life. |

A
musical excursion into the Baroque period
The Ekhof-Festival 2002 in Gotha The two corner towers of Schloß Friedenstein in the city of Gothar can be seen from afar. Friedenstein was built by Herzog I. von Sachsen Gotha on top of the ruins of Burg Grimmenstein. It is the most famous castle of the early Baroque period in Germany, with a valuable art collection and an historic theater. The Baroque Ekhof Theater has an original wooden stage technique; it is the best preserved one of the 17th century. In 1681, Friedrich I. von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg made the plans for this theater. He disliked the narrowness of his fathers Court. ..... |
