Bavarian Forest: A barn made of glass Viechtach – An old barn was turned into a worldwide unique piece of art. The barn made of glass, located between Viechtach and Schönau in the Bayerische Wald, is a place you will never forget. It’s the work of a whole family. Rudolf Schmid and his wife Margarete, the children Reinhard, Rudolf Michael, Barbara and son-in-law Franz Thöner – all glass-painters – helped to build this glass barn with a lot of enthusiasm. With a lot of hard work and privations they created something great together. Glass works of different glass paint techniques and forms are shown in the gallery. Glass can be seen in its multi-layered beauty. Especially three large sized glass-wall-works by Rudolf Schmid. The artist interprets life and prophetics of the wood-prophet “Mühlhiasl”, one of the most mysterious characters in the Bayerische Wald. “Mühlhiasls” visions and his abilities to see the future are the sources of many legends........ |

The city Viechtach celebrates it s 900th birthday Viechtach: A city celebrates 900th anniversary. Viechtach is an important tourist center in the Bayerische Wald. A lot of events are planned for 2004. “In a document of the year 1104 the name Viechtach is mentioned for the first time. This proofs more than 900 years existence of our town,” says Georg Bruckner, 1. major of Viechtach. Discoveries from the late Neolithic Period – that means 3000 years BC give evidence of human existence at that time. An extensive program of festivities includes art exhibitions, literature revues, operas and presentations on open-air stages as well as sporting events. Georg Bruckner:” The program documents the variety of our festival. We’re looking forward to a lot of guests to come to Viechtach to celebrate with us.”........ |

The “Ägayrischen Gewölbe” in Viechtach Viechtach: More than 400 incredible beautiful pieces of artwork of human civilization are shown in the historic “Bürgerspital” in Viechtach. Incredible treasures can be seen and touched in the “Ägayrischen Gewölbe” (vaults). In our collection we have exclusively replicas of high quality, made by a special workshop near Viechtach” says Reinhard Schmid, artist and manager f the museum. Those replicas take you on a journey into the epoch of the ancient pharaohs , the gods of the Nile and the Greek sculptures. The name opf this permanent exhibition “Ägayrisches Gewölbe” is a symbiosis of “ägyptisch” and “bayrisch”. Open daily from April 1st to October 31st – 10 am to 4 pm - except Mondays......... |

BACK TO NATURE – adventures and experience Viechtach: Hajo Bach and Bärbel Kiener offer various outdoor-training-colleges: Holiday-adventure days for children; nature experience and adventure outdoor-training colleges; training colleges for single students or groups; summer-survival for adults and training camps for executives. During the holiday adventure days, children from 8 to 15 years learn lots about nature in a beautiful environment. In their holidays – away from hustle and bustle - they can invigorate body and mind. Just out : The new holiday brochure – all about the Viechtach region Viechtach : The cover of the new holiday brochure Viechtach shows the fairy from a saga about the marvelous natural monument “Der große Pfahl”. Following the motto “In the middle of Naturpark Bayerischer Wald” we advertise a beautiful landscape which is still unknown to most of us. The texts of this brochure are available in five languages – German, English. French, Italian and Czechoslovakian. This is unique in Bavaria. Soon this website – www.viechtach-tourism.com can be read back even in Spanish. Ludwig Reiner, tourism manager of the Viechtach region made these promising decisions, considering an increasing marketing abroad. The offer of the communities Viechtach, Kollnburg and Prackenbach is impressing. Supply and demand are in agreement. Geography and infra-structure allow recreational-activities like: hiking, outdoor, survival as recreational pedagogic; horse-riding, lessons for beginners and advanced; free climbing; wild-water canoeing on a route called “The Bavarian Canada”; .............. |

canoe through the Regen valley “Bavarian-Canada” – that’s how experienced canoeists call the idyllic river valley of the Schwarze Regen. Between the river Regen and Lake Blaibach, there are 50 ideal kilometers for paddling and canoeing. A comfortable ride takes you to upstream to the canoe access Gumpenried. From there you paddle back to your own car. It’s a trip through the almost virgin nature of the romantic Regen valley. Enjoy a rich animal world in the reeds, glades and forests which often grow right down to the banks. Fast flowing and slow passages leave sufficient time for beholding and adventure. Viechtach in the Bavarian forest – what a temtation Not so Viechtach – a climatic health resort in the middle of the Bavarian Forest. On the – disputed – cover a long-haired fairy in front of 275 million years old “Großer Pfahl”, who seems to dream about atmospheric days in the land of hundred mountains.
